September is ARTHRITIS AWARENESS month

Did you know?

  • There are over 100 types of arthritis in all (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis, gout, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, to name a few)
  • Arthritis affects 350 million individuals worldwide, including 4.6 million Canadians, 600,000 of whom are British Columbians
  • In less than 20 years, the number will be 7 million
  • 1 in 6 Canadians are disabled by arthritis right now
  • 60% of people are affected with arthritis before they are 60 years of age
  • Arthritis is the 2nd most common condition in women and the 3rd most common in men
  • Children too are affected by arthritis
  • Arthritis represents one in every 10 doctor visits and one in every 16 hospitalizations
  • Arthritis receives only 3% of the research dollars in Canada although it is now the most expensive condition for the Canadian economy

The Arthritis Research Centre of Canada is determined to ensure that arthritis receives the attention it deserves.  We need your help.

September is ARTHRITIS Awareness month

Just as important as raising awareness about arthritis is the opportunity to say thank you to our donors who support critically important arthritis research.

The mission of the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) is to transform the lives of people living with arthritis through research and engagement.

For the more than 600,000 British Columbian’s, 4.6 million Canadians and 350 million people worldwide who struggle with one or more of the 100 different types of arthritis – the dedicated scientific team at ARC is committed to leading research, finding answers and saving lives.

To everyone who supports arthritis research – our heartfelt thanks!  It is through your generosity that ARC is able to make breakthroughs that make a difference.

Thank You!

2015 ARThritis Soirée

Call Out… for Planning Committee Volunteers

Last year’s ARThritis Soirée was a great success and has firmly established itself as the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada’s (ARC) signature event.  As we embark on the planning for the 2015 ARThritis Soirée, we invite those interested in volunteering to make the 3rd annual event an even greater success to please raise your hand!

Are you organized?  Available to attend monthly meetings? Willing to roll up your sleeves and take on tasks?  We would love to hear from you!  We need individuals to help secure sponsorships, recruit event day volunteers, oversee logistics, and more.  If you are interested in finding out more about becoming involved, please contact Patti Nakatsu, Direct of Development at 604-207-4002 or by email at pnakatsu@arthritisresearch.ca

More about the ARThritis Soirée

The ARThritis Soirée will be held May 2015 at The Vancouver Club in downtown Vancouver and will continue to be presented as an elegant, evening cocktail affair.  This year’s art form will be an amazing display of grace and passion as guests enjoy a memorable show by master tango dancers from Argentina.  This performance coupled with our silent and live auction will ensure there is something to suit everyone’s taste.

The Arthritis Research Centre of Canada’s, ARThritis Soirée is an event intended to celebrate the successes of our research and to raise awareness of and funds for further progress in the prevention of a disease that affects more than 4.6 million Canadians.  The support ARC receives through our sponsors increases our research capabilities and programs, aimed at finding answers, changing and saving lives.

Why an ARThritis Soirée?  Research has shown that art adds to one’s wellbeing and therefore is a great element in managing chronic diseases on a holistic level.  Moreover, art adds an extra factor of excitement and depth to the event as a different art form is introduced each year.
