Arthritis Research Canada Launches 5 Research Studies to Watch in 2025

January 9, 2025 (Vancouver) – Arthritis Research Canada has launched its annual list of research studies to watch for 2025, revealing more ways researchers are working to find answers and improve quality of life for people with arthritis.

Over 6 million Canadians currently live with different types of arthritis and that number is expected to increase to 9 million by 2040. While arthritis is often thought of as a disease that strikes later in life, it can actually happen at any age and have a significant impact on a person’s ability to function.

In fact, people living with arthritis often feel like they are being forced to weather one storm after another in the form of pain, fatigue, flares and more. It’s an unpredictable, ever-changing and, sometimes, extreme way to live.

“Life continues after an arthritis diagnosis,” said Dr. Diane Lacaille, Arthritis Research Canada’s scientific director. “However, people often encounter challenges that interfere with daily life and our scientists are working to find answers and develop practical, life-changing solutions through research.”

For more than 25 years, Arthritis Research Canada’s research scientists have tackled the challenges faced by millions of Canadians of all ages living with arthritis. This includes challenges that make it difficult to work, attend school, be present with family, understand and make treatment choices, overcome sleep difficulties like insomnia, stay physically active, navigate daily life and so much more.

Our 100+ research projects aim to prevent arthritis and improve the quality of life for people living with different types of the disease by facilitating earlier diagnosis and finding new and better treatments.
